Awsome book, can't wait for the next one in the series! Two young girls meet one summer at a resort in the Catskills, one a daughter of a guest and the other a resident of the small community up the mountain. As the years progress they become closer and closer. Without giving the story away this series tells the history of America from right before the Civil War as the girls grow up and figure out how to be together in a time when women had little or no rights without being married. You get the feel of the times from both the well to do as well as the common person as well as how women fit in and tried to get the same rights as the men. A very well written book and we'll worth your time to read, I highly recommend it to anyone.Product details

I've been reading Love in the Catskills and even though I'm only partway through I wanted to show my support of this story by giving it my recommendation. It's a wonderful story of growing up in an era of times past. I love the descriptions and the small little touches that make you really feel like you are living in that time. I can't wait to finish it, yet I wish it would last forever. Give it a try I don't think you will be disappointed.
I just finished reading “Love in the Catskills” by BL Miller. I am not a regular reader of novels set in the past, I normally prefer my reading set in current times. This was an exception, loved it. It is a great coming of age story of two girls in the nineteenth century. Mary and Hester discover each other as young girls and we get to watch them grow up with a backdrop of issues including family conflicts, class distinctions, political issues and the civil war. None of these overtake the story but add wonderful depth to the characters. As the girls grow and discover each other we are reminded of our own childhoods and for me it was a reminder how we are all very much the same even as we are amazingly unique. Take a chance and try out this author, I thinks you will enjoy this story as much as I did.
Knowing all the areas the book is set in, the author was spot on. I love how all the descriptions brought me to the era with ease. I could see the late 1800's and all the issues women had, all the issues the States had.
I love how early on these two women connected and slowly learned how well they fit together.
I loved watching the women they grew into and how deeply they loved.
Through the authors words I was able to feel what these women were feeling. I laughed with them and cried with them.
Very well written and true to the time period it is set in. Look forward to next installment in this era's series.
I just finished "Love in the Catskills" by BL Miller. I have read several of Ms. Miller's novels, and was excited to read her latest work. I am not going give a description of the novel, as Ms. Miller herself has provided a beautiful synopsis. I understand that this is the first in a series, and already I am looking forward to the second installment. Mary is 10, in 1852, when she first travels north from New York City to the Catskills. Hester, the daughter of a local artist, finds a kindred spirit in Mary from the moment they lay eyes on one another. The girls play, and dream about the future, knowing innately that they will always be in one another's life. Ms. Miller does an amazing job leading the reader to actually feel the unconditional love between the two main characters, from the moment they first meet, to the last page in the book. You just root for them. It's a beautiful story, and difficult for me to imagine what it was like for a woman of that period to fall in love with another woman. Love in the Catskills is just that, a love story. The love scenes are not steamy, more suggestive, but you get the point. It's clear that Ms. Miller has done her research regarding the civil war, and paints the unmistakable hell families went through when a love one joined up.
I encourage each of you reading this review to take a chance and purchase "Love in the Catskills". You won't be disappointed.
This is a beautifully written, well researched love story. Historical fiction is my favorite genre, and this is, by far, one of the best this year.
I have been a fan of BL MIller's other books. This novel is exceptional. A well researched historical romance that takes place during the Civil War- era. It explores the effects before and after war, on people from various social standing and their love.
B.L.Miller is an artist that paints a beautiful picture with words! This was a live story set in the Catskill Mountains in a time of innocence. We follow the characters from the time they are 10 and 9 1/2 years old till adulthood. A really well written historical romance.
