After graduation, Brenda Dubcek can’t get out of South Texas fast enough. She has a big dream – to become a great girls basketball coach – and she can hardly wait to get to her first college class in San Marcos. In that serendipitous golf class in 1971, Brenda meets three other young women who have dreams of their own. While Brenda and her pals fail miserably at golf, they bond over the card table in their dorm, forming a unique and lasting friendship. Over the next thirty years, life deals each woman some challenging cards, but the four Bridge Girls are always there for each other, picking up the pieces and dealing the next hand. They rescue a few greyhounds along the way, and their lives are touched by some of the seminal events of the late 20th century – including Vietnam and the events leading up to 9/11.

If you are a baby boomer, this book is for you. Memories of fun times, sad times, historical moments and loved ones will all come to mind. The book also shows the dedication and love of those who rescue greyhounds. I love greyhounds and I loved this book!
Author did an impressive job weaving the various facets of her story - freshmen roommates to their marriages and their bridge group that held together for almost 30 years, basketball coaching career, various men in their lives, etc. - into an interesting take of four lives.
